Third Class visit to Ennis Garda Station and Ennis Abbbey

The Third Classes enjoyed a fantastic educational trip on Tuesday to Ennis Garda Station and the Old Franciscan Abbey.

The children received a wonderful welcome at the Garda Station and were given a guided tour of the building. They learned about the station’s fascinating history as a former British barracks and gained an insight into the many different roles carried out by An Garda Síochána. A special highlight was hearing from Aislí’s mother, Lorraine, who explained her work at crime scenes, including how fingerprints, DNA, and other clues are collected and analysed.

The children also got to visit the holding cells, with a few brave volunteers even spending some time behind bars! Thankfully, they were all released with just a warning!

A huge thank you to all the Gardaí who put so much time and effort into making the visit so enjoyable and informative.

On the way home, the classes visited the Old Abbey, where Albetrto expertly guided the children through its rich history. He explained the daily life of the Franciscan friars and shared fascinating stories about the important O’Brien family, Kings of Thomond, who donated the land on which the Abbey was built. The children learned that the Abbey was the first building in Ennis and played a vital role in the birth and growth of the town.

It was a busy, tiring, and thoroughly enjoyable day filled with learning, history, and unforgettable experiences!
