School Transport Escort Vacancy

Ennis National School invites applications for the position of School Transport Escort.

The School Transport Escort will accompany pupils travelling to and from school and will assist in ensuring their safety, wellbeing and comfort during transport.

Duties Include

  • Supervising pupils while travelling on school transport.
  • Assisting pupils with boarding and disembarking safely.
  • Ensuring the appropriate use of seatbelts, harnesses and other safety equipment.
  • Supporting pupils with additional care needs where required.
  • Liaising with parents, school staff and transport personnel as appropriate.
  • Reporting any concerns in accordance with the school’s Child Safeguarding Statement and procedures.

Hours of Work

This is a part-time position of approximately 10–15 hours per week, depending on the transport route assigned.

The escort’s working day begins and ends at Ennis National School. The escort will be collected by taxi at the school each morning and travel on the route to collect pupils, ensuring their safe arrival at school for the start of the school day at 8:50am.

The role also includes an afternoon return journey accompanying pupils home from school. One of the transport routes requires an escort for both the Infant School finishing time (1:45pm) and the Mainstream School finishing time (2:45pm).

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to work effectively with children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Capacity to maintain a calm, caring and supportive environment.

Desirable

  • Experience working with children, particularly children with additional educational or care needs.
  • First Aid training.

Salary

The rate of pay is €15.98 per hour (gross), subject to statutory deductions.

  • The position operates during the school year.
  • The anticipated commencement date is 31st August 2026.
  • Appointment is subject to satisfactory Garda Vetting and reference checks.
