School Band Spectacular 2018

A great day was had by our School Band yesterday at the School Band Spectacular in Shannon Airport.  This was our 12th Band Spectacular – previous venues have included UL concert hall, Glór, Glenstal Abbey, Bunratty Castle, Thomond Park and the Milk Market in Limerick. We have a particular fondness for performing in the airport as Dorothy Quinn & her team look after us so well. We appreciate it !

Four school bands took part in yesterday’s event. Each band played an individual recital for ten minutes and then we all gathered together for the Grand Finale. It was wonderful to hear Ireland’s Call and Amhrán na bhFiann being played by over 200 young musicians at once. Iontach ar fad !

The bands who took part yesterday were St. Finnachta’s NS (Sixmilebridge), Gaelscoil Mhichíl Cíosóg, Milford NS (Limerick) and ourselves. Our band has 62 members this year, drawn from 3rd – 6th classes. We have a great range of instruments including violins, flutes, tin whistles, concertinas, accordian, guitar, ukulele, trumpet and harp. Our percussion section of djembes and bongos sounded particularly good under the guidance of Mr. Gary Walsh.

Many thanks to all the parents and friends who came along to Shannon Airport yesterday to support us.  After the performance, we went to McDonald’s in Shannon and then to the superb O’Regan Park in Newmarket-on-Fergus where the children had a wonderful time in the playground. Well done to all our young musicians for their hard work and dedication to music and to their parents for encouraging them to practise. Mo cheol sibh go léir !
