School Attendance

Regular attendance at school plays a vital role in your child’s learning and progress. Every day in school matters, and consistent attendance helps children keep up with their class, build on their skills, and get the most from their time at Ennis NS. Nationally, 1 in 5 students are missing a month or more of school each year, and research by the ESRI has highlighted that higher levels of absence are linked to reduced progression to higher education.

The Department of Education has made attendance a national priority. A multimedia campaign highlighting the importance of regular attendance was launched in September 2025, with a second phase running in March 2026. The Department has also introduced Anseo, a new framework to help schools monitor and respond to attendance, which is being rolled out nationally this year. Further information is available on the dedicated School Attendance page on Gov.ie.

At Ennis NS, we monitor attendance carefully. If your child is absent, please let us know through Aladdin. Where we have concerns about attendance, we will always make contact with families in the first instance to offer support.

We fully understand that illness and unavoidable absences are part of family life. We would ask, however, that family holidays during term time are avoided where possible, as absences can add up quickly and have a real impact on your child’s learning.

If there are any circumstances making it difficult for your child to attend regularly, please don’t hesitate to speak with your child’s class teacher or contact the school office.
