Parents’ Association AGM

The AGM of the Parents’ Association was held on Thursday night last, November 23rd. The Chairperson welcomed everyone to the AGM and gave a brief introduction as to the role the Parents Association plays in building a strong community between the school and the parents. He emphasised that all parents were, in essence, members of the PA.  He also mentioned and thanked the other volunteers in the school – from the walking bus supervisors, the parents that help with the car park/pedestrian crossing in the morning and those that served on the Health Promoting School program. He also thanked all other parents who help out at events throughout the year.

Brian Troy (Deputy Principal)  spoke about the Health Promoting Schools initiative last year and informed us that they would be building on the success of that next year with a Mental Health Awareness program which would require more volunteers.

The Chairperson gave a run down on all the activities of the PA over the previous year (Nov ‘16 – Oct ’17) .

The Treasurer ran through the PA’s income and expenses for the year.

Ray McInerney (Principal) thanked the Parents’ Association and spoke about how important it was for the staff and the pupils of the school to have the support of the PA.  He thanked the outgoing committee and gave a short rundown on some of the plans that the BOM have for future years.  Ray also imparted the great news that the school is now debt free, and although there will be a couple of lean years ahead of us as a result of paying down the outstanding loans, it is a phenomenal position to be in so shortly after moving into the new building.

The following parents have stepped down from the committee and were thanked for their time and commitment:

Stephen Coote (Chairperson), Rowena Markham (Treasurer), Edel Flynn (Secretary). Marcella Casey, Augustina Preston, Maura O’Connor, Noeleen Shanahan, Eileen Callaghan.

The following parents were nominated, seconded and elected to the committee:

Sarah Lucey, Tania Tomac, Brian O’Grady , Cliodhna Kelly. Claire O’Connell, Sinead Clinton.  They will join Kamila Kandler, Lisa Carr and Aimee O’Shaughnessy on the committee for the coming year. The following officers were elected:  Estelle Burke (Chairperson), Sheila O’Connor (Treasurer) and Karen Mangan (Secretary).

 This concluded the AGM.
