Parents’ Association 12th October 2017

Ennis NS Parents’ Association Minutes of Meeting held Thursday 12th October 2017

Treasurers Report: There is a balance of €8.19 in the Parents Association accounts. It is felt that this low balance is as a result of smaller profits being made at the tuck shop at events. The school has paid the PA Insurance for 2017-2018 and made a voluntary contribution of €500 to the association to help cover overheads

Board of Management Update: The Board has been advised by the Minister of Education to take measures to reduce the cost of school uniforms and other costs. The school uniform must be available to purchase from various stores, only “iron on” or “sew on” crests should be used; book rental schemes should be made available and the use of workbooks which cannot be reused should be phased out. Where an exclusive supply arrangement applies it should be tendered for regularly. Pynes have been informed of this.

An update on the traffic situation was given. The Board are going to arrange for a traffic audit to be carried out which they will then present to the county council. Emer also gave details of landscaping and painting carried out on the school premises over the summer holidays.

Halloween Quiz has been set for Wednesday 25th October. Volunteers from the committee are required for setting up the Halla on the afternoon of Wednesday and to run the shop on the night. Also, to collect the answer cards and help tidy up the halla afterwards. It is possible to attend the quiz as a participant and still help out with the collection and distribution of answer cards.

Halloween Hobble takes place on Friday 29th – two volunteers per class are required, twelve in total. The buses are set to leave the school at 9am. Volunteers should meet at the bus carpark at the back of the Temple Gate hotel.

AGM will be called for the end of November – a provisional date of 22nd November has been set.

All other members will remain on the committee until, at least, the end of their term i.e. September 2018. With these changes in place the committee will be looking to recruit 7 new members and there are 3 positions to be filled: Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.

AOB: Frist Aid in the school was discussed. Brian Troy is to get details of the schools current cover.

The committee was informed that following on from the success of the ‘Health Promoting Schools’(HPS) flag achieved last year, the school was now going to apply for the ‘Active School Flag’ (ASF). The ASF is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often.
