Food Allergy Awareness

At Ennis National School, the health, safety and wellbeing of every child is very important to us.

Food allergies are a significant concern for some children and, in certain circumstances, exposure to an allergen can cause a severe reaction. For this reason, we ask all families to work with us to minimise avoidable risks associated with food in school.

Ennis National School asks parents/guardians not to send nuts or foods containing nuts to school.

This includes, but is not limited to:

• nuts and packets of nuts;
• peanut butter and nut-based spreads;
• chocolate/nut spreads;
• cereal or snack bars containing nuts;
• cakes, biscuits or other baked goods containing nuts; and
• other foods where nuts are listed as an ingredient.

We further ask for your help in telling your children not to share food with other children in school. Sharing food can create an unnecessary risk for children with food allergies. A child may not know what ingredients are contained in another child’s food, and young children may not always understand the seriousness of an allergy.
