Ennis National School Takes Action on Climate Change through the PROTECT Project 🌍

Ennis National School was proud to play an active role in the Erasmus+ funded PROTECT Project – Pupil-Led Response to the Effects of Climate Change on Their Local Communities, hosted by Clare Education Centre from 13th–17th October 2025.
The week-long Learning, Teaching and Training event brought together educators from Ireland, Portugal, Norway, Croatia, and Serbia to share creative, inquiry-based approaches to climate education. Mr. Ray McInerney, from Ennis NS, introduced the aims of the project and emphasised its focus on pupil voice and cross-European collaboration.
A highlight of the week was the celebration of pupil voice in Clare County Council Chamber, where pupils from Ennis National School joined representatives from Clarecastle NS and Knockanean NS to share their reflections on climate change. Their insightful contributions impressed the international audience and demonstrated the passion and leadership of young people in addressing global challenges.
As part of this project, pupils from Second and Sixth Classes in Ennis NS created a short video capturing their thoughts and opinions about climate change. This inspiring piece was showcased during the PROTECT meeting in the County Council Chamber, giving our pupils a platform to express their ideas and hopes for a more sustainable future.
Participation in the PROTECT Project highlights Ennis NS’s ongoing commitment to environmental awareness, active citizenship, and empowering pupils as agents of change in their communities. 🌱
