Walking Tour of Ennis

3rd Class enjoyed a wonderful walking tour of Ennis with Jane O’Brien last week.  We walked  from the Temple Gate up to the Height, (where we learned about Daniel O’Connell); then down Abbey Street to look at the River Fergus, the old Abbey and the Centurion Sphere.  After that, we saw the Friary and Jane showed us a gargoyle! Next we walked back towards the square, stopping along the way to look at some armoured Wall Candy. Then we ambled down Parnell street to have a look at the oldest house in Ennis (McParland’s House) before walking down Chapel Lane to learn about the old chapel and Blood Lane. Jane then led us to the market to learn of markets old, and through Barracks street down to the Old Ground Hotel (which used to be a town hall, a court house and a jail). After we said goodbye to Jane, our kind teachers brought us to the Clare Museum. It was a great day!
