Science Week – Ms. Harding’s Class

Science with Sofia

Lava lamps.

We made lava lamps using a bottle, water, oil, food colouring and an effervescent tablet.

We learned that oil and water do not mix and that oil is less dense.

We also learned that the effervescent tablet reacts with the water creating a chemical reaction which releases carbon dioxide. This causes the bubbles to rise in the bottle.

We conducted an experiment to investigate which materials were the best conductors of heat. We used a wooden spoon, a metal spoon, and a plastic spoon. We found that the best heat conductor was metal , followed by plastic and finally wood.
