Biography of Piet Mondrian
Piet Mondrian was a famous artist from the Netherlands. He was born on March 7th, 1872, in a small town called Amersfoort. His father was a teacher and an artist, and he helped Piet learn how to draw and paint when he was young.
When Piet grew older, he went to art school in Amsterdam. At first, he painted real-life things like trees, houses, and rivers. He enjoyed painting the countryside and nature.
As time went on, Mondrian began to change his style. He wanted to paint in a new and different way. Instead of showing real objects, he started using straight lines and simple shapes. He believed that art could show balance and harmony using just a few colours and lines.
Mondrian became famous for using black straight lines to make squares and rectangles. He filled some of the shapes with bright colours like red, blue, and yellow, and left others white. These paintings became his signature style.
In 1917, Mondrian helped start an art movement called De Stijl, which means “The Style” in Dutch. The artists in this group believed in keeping art simple and clear.
During World War II, Mondrian moved to New York City in the United States. There, he was inspired by the busy streets, tall buildings, and even jazz music. One of his most famous paintings from this time is called Broadway Boogie Woogie.
Piet Mondrian died in 1944, but his art is still famous all around the world. His bold lines and bright colours have inspired artists, designers, and even fashion and buildings today.
