Jackson Pollack

Jackson Pollock

Jackson Pollock was a famous American artist who was born in 1912. When he was a boy, he loved exploring nature and watching his father draw maps. This helped him become interested in art.

As Jackson grew up, he tried many ways of painting, but he didn’t feel excited by them. One day, he discovered his own special style. Instead of using a paintbrush on an easel, he put big canvases on the ground and dripped, splashed, and poured paint all over them! This was called “drip painting” and nobody else was doing it at the time.

People were amazed by his work because his paintings were full of energy, movement, and colour. It looked like the paint was dancing! Even though some people didn’t understand it at first, his art became very famous.

Jackson Pollock didn’t have an easy life—he sometimes struggled with sadness and anger—but painting helped him express his feelings.

He died in 1956, but today, Jackson Pollock is remembered as one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Kids and adults all over the world still look at his drip paintings and feel inspired to make their own creative art.

Our Collaborative Drip and Splatter Painting

Our class worked together to make a huge drip and splatter painting inspired by the artist Jackson Pollock. First, we spread a large board on the grass outside so we could have lots of space to move around safely.

We chose a variety of colours and poured the paints into small pots. Instead of using normal paintbrush strokes, we used dripping, flicking, splattering, and splashing—just like Pollock did!

We moved around the board carefully, taking turns and making sure everyone had a chance to add their own marks. As the layers of paint built up, we could see lines, dots, swirls, and splashes forming a busy, exciting pattern.

When we finished, we stood back to look at our artwork. Even though each person added something different, all our colours and splatters came together to make one big, energetic masterpiece—just like Jackson Pollock’s drip paintings. It was messy, creative, and lots of fun!
