Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol was a famous American artist who was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1928. He became well known for using bright colours and turning ordinary things into exciting artwork. One of the most famous things he painted was soup cans. He chose them because he grew up eating Campbell’s soup every day, and he liked the idea that something so normal and familiar could become art. Warhol wanted to show people that everyday objects, the things we see all the time, can be just as interesting and beautiful as anything else. His colourful, repeated pictures helped change the way the world thinks about art
We were inspired by Andy Warhol’s colourful prints, so we decided to make our own artwork with a more Irish theme. Instead of using soup cans or famous people like Warhol did, we chose the old Tayto packet because it’s a well-known Irish design. We used Canva to change the colours and repeat the design, just like Warhol did in his Pop Art. The result was a bright, bold Irish-style version of a Warhol artwork.
