Analog Devices Robotics Competition
On February 4th, Mr Walsh’s 6th Class were visited by Mervyn and Sarah from ‘Learnit’ in Cork to host a workshop on behalf of Analog Devices. It was a competition in the class to see who would represent the school and class in the Analog Devices Robotics Competition Munster Semi Final. 64 schools were chosen for the competition so we were very lucky! We were broken up into teams where we have to work together to build & programme a motorised arm using LEGO & LEGO WeDo 2.0. We learned and practiced teamwork, communication and problem solving for the afternoon! The competition was great fun. Here are some comments from the class
“There was a competition and the winners get to go to the Limerick race course to represent the class and school in the semi-finals”
“Mervyn and Sara also left us a LEGO medal each and 5 big LEGO sets for our class to us – thanks so much!”
“We made robot arms out of LEGO”
“we learned about the motion censors and using the computers to control the motors”
“the LEGO activity was inspired by a diver who lost his arm and got a robotic arm and could go back diving again”
“We used a type of lego called wedo 2.0 and the arm could pick up lego flowers and other stuff we built”
“I really enjoyed learning new skills and playing with LEGO at the same time”
“The coding wasn’t very easy but it was great fun”
