History Visitors

We had two visitors to the Reading Class this month. Both are historians and authors. The first was Lucille Ellis from Dublin who talked about the sinking of the RMS Leinster off Dunlaoire 100 years ago by a German U-boat. It was the greatest loss of life on the Irish Sea during WW1 and ever. Over 500 people died including 21 children. Lucille has produced a book on the 11 Clare people who died in the tragedy.

The second visitor was Ger Browne who is from Cork but a longtime resident of Ennis. He spoke about events in World War 1. He has produced a book about Clare people who perished in that war. Ger had some great pictures and interesting slides to show us.

The students took a great interest in both presentations and asked some very searching questions. Well done to all !
