Ennis National Parents Association Minutes of meeting held 8th March 2018

 Flag Day

A successful Flag Day was held on Saturday 27th January, raising €2742-53.

  1. School Photos

County Photos took the school photos on Friday 26th January 2018. Parental feedback included a request to review both the time of year and the day of the week on which the photos are taken before next year.

  1. Wear Green to School Day

The annual Parents Association (PA) Fundraiser Wear Green to School Day takes place on Friday 16th March. The suggested donation is €2 per child or €5 per family.

  1. Confirmation

Sixth class students celebrated the sacrament of confirmation on Saturday 10th March. The PA discussed the organisation of the reception in the School Hall. The committee agreed to scrap goody bags, which have been previously handed out by the PA at confirmation and communion receptions, due both to cost and the fact there is so much other food available at both events. There is no Confirmation DVD this year. Only 11 emails were received in response to a text survey to check interest. It was agreed that the PA would try to organise a video for the communion in April.

  1. Aladdin Connect

Aladdin Connect has been rolled out to parents and guardians of children attending. Some teething problems reported to the committee include difficulty in receiving notifications upon receipt of new Aladdin messages, some people having insufficient space to install the app and the fact that the Aladdin app is not compatible with Microsoft phones.

  1. St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Some PA members may be needed to assist at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

  1. School Bingo

We are holding a Family Fun Bingo night on Wednesday 21st April. Committee members are in the process of approaching local businesses to organise sponsorship.

  1. 6th Class School Hoodies

A design was chosen by the PA and a choice of 4 colours will be offered. Committee members will work towards finalising the order within the next few weeks. PA volunteers will assist students at some stage in the next few weeks with sizing.

  1. Sports Day

Sports Day will be part of Health Promotion week again this year. The week ending Friday 15th June was proposed.

  1. B.O.M.

Emer O’Reilly spoke about current B.O.M. priorities including school finances, focus on improving internal and external school communication and traffic management.

  1. Garda Vetting

Brian Troy spoke about Garda vetting for PA members, an issue which had been raised at the previous meeting.

  1. A.O.B.
  • Suggestions for new events included a bric-a-brac fundraiser and a bag-pack day in Dunnes Stores.
  • Proposed that a set of t-shirts should be purchased for the School Running team.
  • Brian Troy mentioned compiling a directory of local sports and leisure clubs and societies.
  • The PA agreed to look at these possibilities at a quieter time.
  1. B.O.M.

The next meeting is set for 12th April 2018.
