Preparing for Confirmation — Thoughts from Ennis National School (6th Class)

The Sixth Classes at Ennis National School are busy preparing for their Confirmation on 21st March. Here are their own words about the preparations, traditions and what they’re most excited about.

Julia
“I’m in sixth class, at Ennis National. My confirmation is on the 21st of March. In school we are doing art for our confirmation — drawings of the fruits and the seven gifts from God. The art is so fun and colorful.”

Shane
“My name is Siún. We had our enrolment ceremony a few weeks ago, and last night we had our Ceremony of Light where we all brought our baptismal candle as practice for the confirmation.”

Lilly
“My name is Lilly. For confirmation you take a name to celebrate a new beginning — usually after a saint. I’m taking ‘Caramel Monica’ after my two nanas. On the day we’ll wear a name tag with our confirmation name.”

Harry
“I’m Harry. For our confirmation we make confession beforehand. We all go down to the priest — there were two priests in school today— and we make our confession.”

Yun
“My name is Fionn, and I’m also making my confirmation on the 21st of March. We’ve been having extra lessons about religion — we learned about Pentecost and watched a fun video. We’ve been doing extra prayers”
