Féile Fichille Chess Tournament
Our school hall was a hive of concentration and excitement on Tuesday, 27th January, as we were delighted to host the Féile Fichille chess tournament. A total of 134 chess players from eight primary schools took part in this unique event.
It was incredible to see so many children so engaged in chess throughout the day. Each player competed in six matches against a variety of opponents, demonstrating impressive focus, concentration and skill in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Féile Fichille is a one-day inter-school chess event organised by Ficheall.ie, a national initiative that promotes chess in Irish primary schools. The emphasis of Féile Fichille is on participation, enjoyment and social interaction, rather than competition, with pupils encouraged to play, learn and meet fellow chess players from other schools.
Sincere congratulations and thanks to the organisers who ensured the tournament ran so smoothly. A special word of appreciation goes to our own staff member, Gary Walsh, for his outstanding work in organising this event.
A memorable day for all involved and a wonderful showcase of the many benefits of chess for our pupils.
