Our School Tour - May 2012 On my school tour I went to Bunratty Castle. Bunratty is 600 years old. The McNamara and the O’Briens owned the castle. They found a wardrobe and it is now 500 years old. There was a gun and it weighed 15kg.The gun stood on a tripod. There was no electricity in the old days. They used animal skin or shutters for the windows. They painted the walls white because it was a bright colour. It was safer to live upstairs in the castle. The stairs always went to the left. If you are left handed it would be easier to fight up the stairs. The balcony was used for the captain. The waste was dumped through a hole and the river carried away the waste. There was a chair, the king’s chair of state. They say the wall has ears and they do - they have spy holes. There was a fire located in the middle . There was an irish elk on the wall and it was 10,000 years old. It was found in a bog. There were angels on the wall holding a shield/crest. Bunratty is a Medieval Town House. The battlements were found in the tower. At night somebody would guard the towers. The castle could not go on fire because it was made of stone. You can never turn your back on a king. You could also not make eye contact. We went to Supermacs and I got a burger, chips and coke. I sat beside Lauren eating my lunch. After that we went bowling. Lisa G. won in my group in bowling and we were in lane 6.We had a really good time. By Katie |
