The debut concert of this year’s ‘Swinging Strings’ musicians took place on December 7th in the school hall. The place was packed to capacity with family members who came along to enjoy the performance of  our 4th class pupils, accompanied by the school band.

All 4th class pupils receive a weekly violin lesson in school with tutor Cathy Desmond. Students also get the opportunity to try other instruments – double- bass, cello, ukulele, percussion.

On this occasion, the programme consisted of a number of popular tunes interspersed with Christmas carols for a seasonal note. A surprise guest artiste appeared in the form of principal Mr. McInerney, who performed a pizzicato accompaniment on the double-bass, showing a definite talent for pulling strings.

Well done to all our musicians who got the Christmas concert season for 2011 in Ennis National school off to a flying start. Some lovely photographs of the event feature in the Clare People newspaper today. Bravo !
